Vidor Chamber accepting nominations for annual awards

With final preparations being made for the annual banquet and meeting in January, the Vidor Chamber of Commerce is now taking applications for its most distinguished yearly awards.

The Vidor Chamber of Commerce is now accepting nominations for its Citizen of the Year award and Member of the Year award. The 2010 banquet will be held on Jan. 28 inside the Parish Hall of Our Lady of Lourdes Church on North Main Street.

According to Jane Carter, executive secretary, the chamber will accept nomination applications until Jan. 10, 2010.

The Citizen of the Year award is presented to a person from the Vidor area at the culmination of the annual banquet.

“The person being nominated can be anyone from the Vidor area which has done something to warrant such recognition,” Carter explained. “It can be someone who works in the community, or who volunteers their time to help others.”

The 2009 recipient of the Citizen of the Year award was Gayle Nagai, a Vidor resident who volunteers countless hours at First United Methodist Church in Vidor, along with the Christian Care Center, the Vidor Public Library and with Heartbeats of Hope.

The winner of the awards are well kept secrets up until the announcements are made during the banquet.

Nominations are also being accepted for the other prestigious award, the Chamber Member of the Year.

According to Carter, this award is presented to the chamber member which has gone above and beyond what is expected of chamber members and any work this person or business has done to better the community and chamber.

The 2009 recipient of the award was Greg Knost of Knost Electric.
