Creepy, safe times for Halloween

Tommy Mann, Jr.
The Orange Leader

Little monsters, super heroes, and crazy characters of all types will be walking neighborhood streets this Saturday night as area children celebrate Halloween.

With that in mind, area police are reminding parents and adults to be cautious Saturday this Halloween weekend.

A responsible adult or parent should always accompany young children while Trick-or-Treating. It is recommended that parents restrict children’s trick-or-treating to their respective neighborhood.

It is also suggested these activities be done during late afternoon or early evening hours. Parents are also encouraged to make sure children’s costumes are light colored and highly visible, and, if possible, add some reflective tape to the outfit in order to improve its visibility to motorists.

Trick-or-treaters, especially parents, are also encouraged to carry along a flashlight for safety.

Parents should also keep children from sampling any of their goodies until returning home after trick-or-treating so parents may inspect the items. Do not consume any candy or treats which appear to have been opened, punctured or disturbed in any way.

Remember to obey all simple pedestrian traffic safety rules, such as walk single file against oncoming traffic and look both ways before crossing any street.

For those who prefer trick-or-treating outside of their neighborhood, here is a listing of area churches and businesses with Halloween activites this weekend.
