Mauriceville man arrested after firing a gun, riding the hood of a vehicle

Deputies from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office responded about 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, to 9295 Oliver Road in Mauriceville concerning a disturbance with a firearm.

Upon arrival, Deputies observed a gold color car traveling East on Oliver Rd. with a white male on the hood of the vehicle. Deputies stopped the vehicle and the white male jumped off of the hood and ran into the wooded area of 9295 Oliver. 

The deputies pursued the subject on foot and after a brief chase were able to take him into custody.   

The suspect was identified as Eddie Lee Dunwody Jr., 28, of Mauriceville. Upon searching Dunwoody’s pockets there were several 9MM rounds located and after searching the area a 9MM handgun was also located.

The driver of the vehicle, a 32 year old woman, advised she and Dunwoody had been arguing all day. She advised when she tried to leave in her vehicle, Dunwoody got on the hood of the car and struck the windshield with a gun and also fired the gun several times.

Deputies observed the windshield on the car to be cracked where the gun had struck the windshield.There were also several bullet holes located in the dirt near the driveway where the gun had been fired. Further investigation revealed that the 9MM handgun was reported stolen and also that Dunwoody was a convicted felon. 

Eddie Lee Dunwody Jr. was arrested and transported to the Orange County Jail and booked for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon.    

Bond was set at $30,000 and he posted bond Wednesday and was released from Jail.    

The Criminal Investigations Division is conducting the investigation.
