Two arrested in locker room break-in

VIDOR Two men are under arrest one week after items were stolen from two locker rooms at Vidor High School.

According to Chief Ray Moseley of the Vidor Independent School District Police Department, the locker rooms of the Vidor Pirates football team and volleyball team were entered by unidentified individuals on Oct. 9 who stole items such as cash, wallets, iPods, various other electronics and credit cards. Both teams were playing home games that night in their respective sports.

Moseley said two people were arrested on Friday morning and more arrests could be forthcoming.

“Somehow these individuals either broke into or made entry into these locker rooms,” Moseley said. “We were able to develop leads when the credit cards were used in town later that night. We used video tapes from the locations to help identify the vehicle and two of the individuals.”

Moseley said the vehicle observed in the video tapes was located Friday morning and two adult men were arrested at an apartment complex on narcotics charges.

“We have these two men in custody and both have confessed,” Moseley added. “And we believe others were involved and could be in custody very soon.”

Moseley said the district and its police department “intend to file any and all charges possible” against the people responsible for these crimes.

The school district police were alerted to the incident at approximately 10:30 p.m., Oct. 16 when Jeff Mathews, Vidor ISD athletics director and head football coach, called Vidor ISD Police to report the theft of items from both locker rooms.

Moseley said the Vidor ISD Police Department received assistance from the Vidor Police Department, Orange County Sheriff’s Office and Precinct 4 Constable Weldon Peveto to make Friday’s arrests possible.

“It’s a shame these kids, who are dedicated to their school and community, should have to worry about something like this happening,” Moseley said.
