Orange-area school districts at a glance

A glance of Orange-area school districts as of Thursday morning:

WEST ORANGE-STARK SCHOOL DISTRICT - WO-S superintendent Taylor O. Collins would like to see the school district open up by Monday, Sept. 22. However, he is very concerned whether or not the district will have enough faculty and bus operators. North Early Learning Center received the most water damage and those students will be shifted to other campuses. As of Thursday morning both WO-S High School and Oates Elementary had power.

LITTLE CYPRESS-MAURICEVILLE SCHOOL DISTRICT - LC-M superintendent Pauline Hargrove said that LC-M schools received minimal damage and is ready to be re-opened soon and is waiting on the all-clear for the sewage system. School is expected to resume at LC-M next week with an answer coming hopefully by today.

ORANGEFIELD SCHOOL DISTRICT - Orangefield superintendent Phillip Welch indicated that the school district fared well as far as structural damage goes. The return date for Orangefield students remains up in the air but the district is hoping to resume later next week. Welch and the district is more concerned about many faculty members that live in the Bridge City area who suffered through major flood damage along with faculty staffers that saw extensive wind damage.

BRIDGE CITY SCHOOL DISTRICT - Bridge City superintendent Jamey Harrison reported that the high school had no water in the facility. Both the middle school and intermediate school along with Hatton and Sims elementaries had an abundance of water. Harrison is open students will be able to return to school in about three weeks.

DEWEYVILLE SCHOOL DISTRICT - Deweyville superintendent Rick Summers reported that there was very little damage to the district. Deweyville ISD students will go back to school on Monday, Sept. 22. Summers says school will begin at 9 a.m. and buses will run an hour later than usual. Faculty should report at their normal time.
