Special to the Leader

The members of the Orange County Sheriff Posse are proud to announce the presentation of five scholarships to area high school students who graduated with the Class of 2009. The Gus Harris Memorial Scholarship Fund Committee, as well as the rest of The Posse members, all feel our youth is a worthwhile investment. We want to thank all of the scholarship applicants for taking the time to apply for our scholarships. Our scholarship committee members were all impressed with every applicantís achievements and inspired by your future goals. Over the years, the Orange County Sheriff Posse has awarded over $50,000 in scholarships. Orange County area businesses and professionals have helped to make this possible through donations to our rodeo and other activities. We hope this award will help some of our local youth to pursue their goals and make their dreams a reality. Our recipients this year were as follows:

WOS — Kevinique M. Walker and John Jefferson III
LCM — Amber Deranger
OF — Jason Fikes
BC — Kyle Marshall

Congratulations to all the recipients.
OCSP 2009 Rodeo will take place on July 17th and 18th. Contestants please watch for future announcements on how to register for events. Those who attend the rodeo this year will note that there have been some major improvements to the arena this summer. With the addition of the wheelchair stage on the West side of the arena, persons in wheelchairs, accompanied by one companion, will have a birdís eye view of all the events. In addition, we have a new air conditioned announcerís stand. This may not benefit the general public directly, but it will, in the near future, improve the momentum and safety of our speed events. The announcers stand is the first stage in many of installing a center based alleyway. Not to mention, it looks fabulous! Thank you to all the members and friends that have endured the heat and worked many a late night and long weekend days to make these improvements possible.
