Money, equipment stolen from local business owner

— John Rushing, owner of AB Construction in Orange, filed a report with the Orange Police Department on June 30 claiming a sub-contractor has stolen from his company.
According to the OPD incident report, field by Officer Kelly Griffin, Rushing said he wrote a check to the sub-contractor in the amount of $8,000 to purchase materials and for labor on a job to be completed in Groves.
Since presenting the check to the man in the AB Construction office on 1th Street in Orange, Rushing has been unable to contact the individual, even by telephone, and the job has yet to be started.
Rushing also said the sub-contractor has since cashed the check and taken two seven-ton air conditioning units, without permission, from the job site in Groves.
Messages left for Rushing were not returned.
