Vidor administrator indicted for sexual assault w/ photo

From staff reports

After months of speculation by parents and staff and even a media tug-of-war over public records, the truth has finally come out as to why a Vidor administrator was given a paid leave of absence from his post.

Vidor High School Assistant Principal Danny Reynolds Jr., 33, was indicted by an Orange County Grand Jury this week on two counts of sexual assault and two counts of improper relationship between an educator and student.

Both offenses are second degree felonies .If convicted, Reynolds could face anywhere from two years probation to 20 years in prison.

According to the Orange County District Attorney’s office, the improper incidents with an underage student occurred Nov. 15, 2005 and again on Jan. 18 of this year.

Reynolds has been on paid leave from Vidor ISD since early March.

Bond has been set in this case at $10,000. Although no trial date has been announced, the District Attorney’s office said the case is being handled in the 128th District Court.

Others indicted by the grand jury this week include John Darrell Marange, 45, who is accused of aggravated assault.

Charges against Marange stem from an incident involving an Orange police officer and a domestic dispute with his wife. When the officer arrived near Marange’s home, he reportedly met with a 32-year-old woman in the street who advised him she was having a problem with her husband.

The woman told the officer all she wanted to do was to gather clothing so she could leave for the day. She said a fight ensued between she and Marange and that he reportedly pulled an 8-inch knife from his back pants pocket and held it up about head level as if in a “ready position for stabbing,” according to reports.

Marange also allegedly came towards the officer with his hand still in the same position. The officer said he was forced to spray Marange with pepper spray several times before he dropped the knife and was taken into custody.
