LSC-O confers Spring graduates

John Cash Smith was the guest speaker at the Lamar State College-Orange spring commencement, conducted last weekend at the Lutcher Theater.

Smith graduated from Baylor University in 1961 and from University of Texas School of Law in 1964. He was an Assistant City Attorney for the City of Austin from 1964 to 1966 and has practiced law privately in Orange since 1966.

Smith is board certified in personal injury trial law and is board certified as a civil trial advocate by the National Board of Trial Advocacy. He has been board certified in labor and employment law. He is licensed to practice by the State Bar of Texas and is licensed to practice in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Texas, the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, and the United States Supreme Court. Smith is also a past president of the Orange County Bar Association. He is a fellow in the Texas Bar Foundation and is a member of the Texas City Attorneys Association. He has made numerous continuing legal education presentations and has written articles on personal injury trial law.

Smith is a member of the Orange Rotary Club, is on the Board of Trustees of the Lamar State College-Orange Foundation, and serves on the board of the Nelda C. and H.J. Lutcher Stark Foundation. He has served for eight years on the Administrative Committee of the Baptist General convention of Texas, two years as Chairman, and has been Chairman of the Board of the Texas Baptist Laity Institute. He is a deacon and Sunday school teacher at the First Baptist Church of Orange.

Dr. J. Michael Shahan, LSC-O president, introduced Smith and conferred the degrees.
