A broken headlight led to the arrest Saturday of five illegal immigrants.
Orange Police officer Jesse Warner said he was traveling east on I-10 shortly after midnight Saturday when he noticed a maroon Chevrolet pass him in the inside lane. The right front headlight was not functioning on the car, Warner reported as the reason as to why he stopped the vehicle.
The driver, Marvin Lara, reportedly identified himself to the officer with a Honduras identification card, however, he did not speak English. According to Warner, only two out of the five occupants in the vehicle were able to provide paper identification.
“I then contacted dispatch and had them contact Homeland Security,” Warner wrote in his report.
Agent Jeff Fuselier contacted Warner and reportedly asked to speak to the vehicle’s passengers.
“I handed my cell phone to each of the occupants and allowed them to speak to Agent Fuselier,” Warner documented in his report. “After speaking with all five subjects, Agent Fuselier asked that I detain the subjects due to them being in the United States illegally.”
All five men, identified as Marvin Lara, 29; Carlos Garcia, 19; Marco Lara, 27; Samuel Lara, 19; and Marco Antonio, 28, were transported to the Orange County Jail and held for Homeland Security. Agent Fuselier notified Warner he and another agent would pick up the five men.
Marvin Lara’s vehicle was towed and stored at Gilbeaux’s Towing.
