Election day is this Saturday, and, after the dust settles and the votes are counted, a new face is guaranteed to join the LC-M CISD Board of Trustees.
Two new candidates, Keith Adams and Kent Crow, are challenging one another for the Place 4 seat on the Little Cypress-Mauriceville Consolidated Independent School District Board of Trustees.
The seat was previously held by long-time trustee, Donna Scheer, who opted not to seek re-election this year.
Election day voting hours are from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Voters wishing to submit a ballot for the LC-M CISD school board race may do so at Little Cypress Intermediate School, 2300 Allie Payne; or at Mauriceville Middle School, 19952 FM 1130 in Mauriceville.
Crow, 56, is an electrical technician at DuPont Sabine River Works. He is married and currently has one child in the LC-M school district.
Adams, 44, is a site supervisor for Kirby Inland Marine at Exxon Mobil. He is married and currently has one child in the LC-M school district.
David Alan Jones filed to retain his seat for Position 2, as did Donald Ray Anderson for Position 5. Neither candidate has an opponent in Saturday’s election.
Arguably the biggest issue facing all board members is how the school district can find a way to fund repairs and renovations to aging facilities, including LC-M High School.
In 2007, the school district held a bond election in hopes of receiving voter approval to rebuild the high school on its present site, as well as make numerous renovations to other campuses across the district. Voters opposed the bond election and the district has been considering its options ever since that time.
