West Orange-Cove makes changes at two campuses

ORANGE — The West Orange-Cove Consolidated Independent School District announced Monday its middle school and high school campus will be under new leadership next school year.

Dr. O. Taylor Collins, West Orange-Cove CISD superintendent, announced the changes in leadership at West Orange-Stark High School and West Orange-Stark Middle School Monday morning for the 2009-2010 school year.

Current West Orange-Stark Middle School Principal Anitrea Goodwin has been named to the central office position of Executive Director of Federal Programs and Special Initiatives.

“I am pleased that Mrs. Goodwin will be leading federal programs and some special instructional initiatives,” Collins said. “With the influx of new federal dollars in the stimulus package, there will be much added work in these important programs. Anitrea is an up-and-coming leader and will bring much skill and enthusiasm to these instructional projects.”

Goodwin will begin her new duties with the school district on July 1.

In addition to the opening for a principal at the middle school, there is also an opening for principal at the high school.

Collins has announced Mike Mason will not be the high school principal for the 2009-2010 school year, and that the district has already started accepting applications for the high school position.

Collins said in a telephone interview that it was time for a change at the high school.

“I made the decision to make this change at the high school,” Collins said. “It was time for a change.”

In a statement, Collins said Mason will assume a new leadership position which will be announced at a later date. This position will effectively utilize administrative and management experience in a capacity which will continue to benefit the school district. Duty for this position will also begin July 1.

By statute, the superintendent of schools assigns personnel in the best interest of the school district.
