PINEHURST — After a closed session with the City Council, Pinehurst Mayor Billy Permenter announced Monday night the temporary municipal court judge will be Precinct 2 Judge Derry Dunn.
Council members voted to rescind Dan Robertson’s appointment as temporary municipal court judge. Robertson was appointed by council members to the post March 25 after longtime judge Julian Meadows turned in his resignation.
After contacting the Texas Municipal League, however, it was decided it was not in the best interest of the city for Robertson to remain a judge in addition to his duties as police chief and city administrator.
Dunn will hold court sessions Monday and Thursday afternoons. Sessions are expected to be held from 1 p.m. until about 5 p.m.
Council members have tabled discussion pending further investigation regarding Dunn’s compensation.
Dunn is expected to serve as temporary judge for around six weeks, while the council reviews formal applications for the job.
