Fred Lambert, 63, was given five years probation and ordered to pay $700 to the mother of his two children each month in child support payments Thursday.
Judge Pat Clark of the 128th District Court, told Lambert, a convicted murderer, he “would not hesitate” to put him in a state jail facility for two years if he fails to live up to the terms of his probation. Clark elaborated by saying he only agreed to the probation sentence to give the victim a chance to receive the money she is owed in back child support — an amount totaling more than $100,000.
Clark also said probation was given not because of a good criminal background, but a poor one at that. Lambert’s prior history includes a1986 murder conviction in Calcasieu Parish, La. He received a 20 year sentence in the department of corrections for the crime. Lambert also has driving while intoxicated convictions.
“You know as well as I do that you should be sentenced to the state jail,” Clark told Lambert.
Lambert has two children with the victim and reportedly has other additional children as well.
