Report: Vidor man died of accidental overdose

The cause of the January death of a Vidor man is now listed as an accidental overdose of narcotics, according to a recent report from the Jefferson County morgue.

Precinct 3 Judge Janice Menard ordered an autopsy of Chesser’s body, found Jan. 12 in a white four-door Saturn parked in the 2000 block of FM 1132. Despite knowing the cause of death, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office has not closed the case.

“We are continuing to investigate some of the circumstances involving the whole chain of events that led up to the death of Mr. Chesser,” said Capt. David Reeves of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.

“We are still looking into the case and will turn over all of the information received to the district attorney’s office,” Sheriff Mike White said.

Deputies were serving warrants in the Vidor area when they noticed the vehicle parked in a business driveway. As a deputy approached the driver’s side of the vehicle, the man appeared to be asleep, the deputy reported. After confirming Chesser was dead, investigators were called to the scene. Investigators conducted interviews and processed evidence gathered at the scene, including sending the vehicle to a lab to gather evidence.
