Man arrested for public intoxication, disturbing the peace

As most residents were sleeping soundly in their beds about 4 a.m. Sunday, a 30-year-old Orange resident was standing nude in the middle of the intersection of Hart Ave. and 14th Street, “shouting and howling like an animal.”

The man’s clothes were reportedly laid on the roadway as he stood there shouting. He appeared to be highly agitated and belligerent as he swung his arms with closed fists in an aggressive manner, according to reports from the Orange Police Department.

While the officer waited for backup, the man continued to pace in the roadway and with a clenched fist and an aggressive stance, reportedly shouted at the officer, “Come on, what are you going to do?”

After help arrived, the officers attempted to arrest the man and allegedly ordered him on several occasions to lay on the ground and place his hands behind his back. However, the man failed to comply which forced an officer to deploy his Taser.

Again the officers tried to secure the man in handcuffs, but he continued to pull away while attempting to stand up. An officer allegedly instructed him to place his hand behind his back, but he refused. He was once again tased. At this point the officers were able to gain compliance and make an arrest, according to reports.

Based on the man’s physical demeanor of unsteady balance and slurred speech, he was believed to be intoxicated to the point where he was a danger to himself or others.

Paramedics at the scene reportedly checked his vital signs which proved to be “normal.”

Tyrell Gerome Beasley of Orange was placed under arrest for public intoxication, disorderly conduct-exposure and resisting arrest. He was then transported to Memorial Hermann Baptist-Orange Hospital for medical jail clearance before being transported to the Orange County Jail.

Going door-to-door asking for donations is not always a bad thing, unless the person is believed to be intoxicated and it is 1 a.m.

According to reports, a 35-year-old man was knocking on doors in the 1300 block of Beagle Road asking for money. When the officer arrived, he did not immediately see the man. However, after driving to the intersection of FM 1130 and Beagle Road, he saw the man standing in the shadows.

While the officer was talking to the man, he allegedly admitted going door-to door asking for money. The officer noted in his report, the man appeared to be unsteady on his feet and his speech was slurred although he did not have alcohol on his breath. The officer stated he believed the man was intoxicated on prescription medication. The officer also believed the man posed a danger to himself or others because of his actions.

Michael Nelson Helmer, of Orange, was arrested for public intoxication without incident and transported to the Orange County Jail.



Man makes costly decision

A 40-year-old man who was believed to be intoxicated about 12:10 a.m. Saturday and stopped at Lions Park to rest. An Orange police officer pulled in behind the parked vehicle and noticed the man sleeping with a 40-ounce bottle of beer still in his hand.

The officer began talking to the man and he reportedly was disorientated and confused. As he got out of his vehicle he also appeared to be unsteady on his feet. He reportedly told the officer he has been drinking and had stopped to rest.

The officer believed he was a danger to himself and the public, so he gave the man the opportunity to contact a friend or family member to come pick him up.

However, the man refused and reportedly stated, “take me to jail.”

David Caballero, of Orange, was arrested for public intoxication and transported to the Orange County Jail and his vehicle was towed.



Day of bad luck starts early for Orange man

Friday the 13th started off bad for one Orange man.

Deonte White, 18, was standing in the roadway about 9:30 a.m. in the 1200 block of 5th Street. Officers stopped and made contact with him. It was determined he was in possession of crack cocaine. He was placed under arrest and transported to the Orange County Jail, according to reports.
