So far more than a dozen people have applied for the open positions of Pinehurst city administrator and police chief.
Time is running out for anyone else wanting to put in an application. The deadline is January 15.
The positions became available in November when the former police chief/city administrator, Dan Robertson, retired. Since then Fred Hanauer has served as interim police cheif, while Mayor T.W. Permenter has served as interim city administrator.
According to Permenter, they have received applications from all over the area and some out-of-state applications as well.
After the deadline passes, the committee will review the applications and begin interviews. However, Permenter said he does not know when the hiring will begin.
I just hope it will be soon, he said.
He added, it will be up to the committee to decide if they will split the positions into two different jobs or hire one person for both openings.
One applicant has withdrawn his name as a contender for the position. Justice of the Peace, Pct. 1, Joe Parkhurst said he was initially interested in the job, but took the time to think about it more and changed his mind. He said he still has two years left to serve as JP and wants to honor his committment.
In two years if the job is available I may consider it then, he said.
However, he said he may also consider retirement. Parkhurst has served 10 years as JP and is in his third term.
