Vidor city council members will meet at 9 a.m. today inside Vidor Municipal Court for a regular scheduled meeting. The court is located at 125 Watts St. in Vidor adjacent to the Vidor Police Department.
Besides handling regular city business, council members will consider and possibly approve an ordinance amendment by adding information providing for city management of public rights-of-way.
“This all came about a while back because the water district wanted to do some line work on Tannahill Drive,” said Ricky Jorgensen, city manager. “When they dug up the line, they found AT&T lines running on top of their water line. It ended up being decided the water district would have to pay to move those lines.”
Jorgensen said the ordinance amendment pertains to all easements whether utility or public.
According to Jorgensen, what this basically means is if something like this were to happen again, then the cost of moving communication lines or water lines would revert to whatever group was moving its own lines.
“It would keep the water district, for example, from having to move someone else’s lines,” he added.
Council members will also consider changing the Jan. 22 council meeting from 5:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. to accommodate for the Vidor Chamber of Commerce’s annual banquet that evening.
