HOOP WRAP: Mustangs throttle Cards, 81-38



LITTLE CYPRESS — The Little Cypress-Mauriceville Bears battled first-place Beaumont Central hard Friday night in District 20-4A action at The Bear Cave but the Jaguars left with a 69-50 victory.

The Jaguars (25-5, 12-1) led the Bears (12-20, 3-10) 18-13 at the end of the first period and upped it to 38-20 at the half with a 20-7 spurt.

The Jaguars outscored the Bears 31-30 in the second half.

Taylor Peveto filtered in a game-high 20 points for the Bears. Jace Robertson and Christian Wendt added 10 points apiece.

Nijal Pearson led the Jaguars with 15 points while Garrison Mitchell, Dominique Harrison and E’Torrison Wilbridge each scored nine.

The Bears will close out their season on the road Tuesday at Orange County rival Vidor while the Jaguars play host to Nederland.

Central still has a one-game lead on both Nederland (25-8, 11-2) and Beaumont Ozen (19-10, 11-2) with one game left. Ozen visits Lumberton Tuesday.

Lumberton (12-22, 6-7) and Port Neches-Groves (11-18, 6-7) are tied for the fourth-place playoff berth. PN-G will host Livingston Tuesday.
