Bridge City coach Cris Stump will take his “Cardiac Cardinals” on the road for a non-district tilt against Jasper after Bridge City pulled out a dramatic 28-24 victory on the road at Buna to start District 21-3A play last week.
The Cardinals (2-2, 1-0) found themselves trailing the Cougars 24-0 in the first half before rallying back with 28 amazing unanswered points to nail down the victory.
Jasper (3-1), meanwhile, had their bye week last week. The Bulldogs, who have defeated Liberty, Orangefield and Kirbyville, dropped a 17-7 decision to sixth-ranked West Orange-Stark in their last outing.
The Cardinal offense, which is averaging 280.8 yards a game, is led by junior tailback Ashton Hunter.
Hunter leads District 21-3A in rushing with 596 yards and three touchdowns on 71 carries. Backfield mate Kruz Dearbonne has 130 yards and two TDs on 31 carries.
Cardinal quarterback Daniel Faulk has completed 24-of-56 passes for 287 yards and four TDs and has been picked off once. His favorite two targets have been Adrian Schubarth (7-75-0) and Tanner Cervenka (4-86-1).
Jasper will face a Bridge City defense that has allowed 291 yards a contest.
The Bulldogs are very versatile on offense.
Quarterback Steven Walker has a very accuate arm and has one of the best go-to receivers in Southeast Texas in D’Marcus Collins.
Jasper also has a nicw trio at the running back spots in Terrence Cuney, Deroderick Hadnot and Donovan Middleton.
Bridge City will return to 21-3A play next week when they welcome Silsbee while Jasper hosts New Orleans Cohen College Prep in their final non-district game.
