Lady Bobcats take down Silsbee in four games

ORANGEFIELD — It’s been since 2011 since the Orangefield Lady Bobcats have dropped a volleyball match in District 21-3A.

They may be much younger this year but the defending 21-3A champion Lady Bobcats started off 21-3A play this season with a victory over the Silsbee Lady Tigers at Bobcat Gym Tuesday night.

After blowing Game Three, the Lady Bobcats stormed to the Game Four victory to notch a 25-23, 25-19, 23-25, 25-19 win behind the hitting of Taylor Benoit and Sabryn Crain.

The Lady Bobcats trailed the Lady Tigers big early in both Games One and Two but stormed back to take the wins. Orangefield trailed 17-11 in the first game and finished with a 14-6 run.

Game Three was tough for Orangefield, which had a 23-20 lead only to see the Lady Tigers claw back to take the next five points and the game.

Orangefield led Game Four 16-12 only to see Silsbee get to within 16-15. However, the Lady Bobcats tallied nine of the next 13 points to snag the match.

Benoit finished with a match-high 14 kills and had seven points and two aces. Crain posted 10 kills, had 12 service points and three aces.

Priscilla Garza contributed seven kills for the Lady Bobcats while Rebekah Newell posted six and Morgan Worthy added five.

Kaylie Evans had a nice service game working, finishing with 14 points and two aces. Brandy Ehrlich had eight points and two aces while Worthy had seven points.

Camry Martin and Chanissey Fowler led the Lady Tigers with nine kills apiece. Keleigh Trabing had eight kills while Kimberli Smith and Shelby Keefer added five apiece.
