OF's Wiley, Vidor's Boutte net Players of the Week

ORANGE — Orangefield running back Carl Wiley is the Orange Leader’s Offensive Player of the Week while Vidor defensive back Alex Boutte is the Defensive Player of the Week after outstanding performances last week.

Wiley aided the Bobcats in their impressive 30-22 victory over Jasper.

Wiley had a very workman-like 225 yards and a touchdown on 36 carries as Orangefield stayed perfect on the season at 2-0.

Wiley and the Bobcats will head to Newton, ranked No. 1 in the state in Class 2A, Friday night.

Boutte, a returning All-District 20-4A safety for the Pirates who had four interceptions last year, picked off two passes in Vidor’s decisive 54-13 victory over the Bridge City Cardinals.

Boutte and the Pirates will try to slow down Class 5A Clear Brook this week. Clear Brook returns six starters off an offense that helped them to the postseason last year.

Other noteworthy performers included WO-S’ Chris James (153 yards rushing), WO-S’ Dillon Sterling-Cole (207 yards passing, two TDs rushing, 1 passing); Vidor’s Sage Smith (173 yards rushing, four TDs); LC-M’s Dalton Doyle (6 catches for 92 yards, 64-yard punt return); LC-M’s Jalen Griffin (105 yards rushing); Bridge City’s Malcolm Busby (two catches for 57 yards); Orangefield’s Matthew Watkins (two fumble recoveries).
