Lady Bears take down PN-G

LITTLE CYPRESS — Little Cypress-Mauriceville’s Mikaela Stegall provided the offense Friday against Port Neches-Groves and Hope Russell did her part on the mound.

The No. 18 Lady Bears defeated the Lady Indians, 3-0, to move to 7-2 in District 20-4A play. PN-G is now 4-5.

Stegall hit a two-run triple in the fifth and Russell followed that up with a RBI to score Stegall as LC-M scored all its runs in the inning.

Russell struck out seven batters and allowed two hits and no walks.

Bailey Crorey and Katie Lee were the PN-G batters to get hits.

PN-G’s Maci Dean struck out eight batters and walked two.

Both teams are off until next Friday due to testing. PN-G will be at Beaumont Central for a 5 p.m. game, varsity only, while LC-M will be on the road to face Nederland.

The Lady Bears kicked off the second half of District 20-4A softball play with a 3-0 shutout against the Livingston Lady Lions Tuesday night at Lady Lions Field.

Hits were hard to come by for both teams as Lady Bear ace Hope Russell matched Livingston ace Hallie SMith pitch-for-pitch.

Russell worked all seven innings to net the win. She allowed a mere four hits while striking out 10 and walking none.

Smith went the distance for the Lady Lions, allowing seven hits and had 11 strikeouts and just one walk.

Taylor Fraccastoro was 2-for-4 at the plate for the Lady Bears (19-5, 6-2) and drove in a run. Haley Mills was 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Mikaela Stegall was 2-for-4. Blythe Ferguson was 1-for-3 with a RBI and Chelsy White scored a run.

Haley Mclendon was 2-for-4 at the plate for the Lady Lions (3-5 in district).
