Indians slow down Bears, 6-1

PORT NECHES —  Lance LeDoux was pitching so well against Little Cypress-Mauriceville Friday night he struck the same batter out twice...in the same at bat.

LeDoux struck out 12 batters in all after five innings of work and led the Port Neches-Groves Indians to a 6-1 victory over the Bears.

The unique strike out came in the top of the fifth with the bases loaded and LeDoux already having striking out the first two batters.

LC-M (1-1) then had three straight singles to load the bases to bring up Dylan Gruber.

PN-G (2-0) was up 4-0 at the time and LeDoux seemed to have struck out Gruber. The Bears took the field for warm up tosses and the Indians were ready to bat. The umpires though advanced all runners and brought Gruber back to the plate and LeDoux back to the mound after calling a very late balk.

LeDoux repeated what he had done just a few minutes before and struck out Gruber.

PN-G’s offense produced nine hits in their six innings of batting.

The Indians scored a run in the first two innings.

Ryan Leckich made it 1-0 when he scored on a LC-M error after he had singled to left.

LeDoux helped himself out in the bottom of the second with a RBI double to left to score Skyler Finn.

PN-G picked up two more runs in the top of the fourth to make it 4-0 Tribe.

Finn scored on another LC-M error and LeDoux was credited with a run when Logan Chipman ripped a RBI double.

Corbin Coy had a RBI double in the bottom of the fifth to plate Michael Hughes and PN-G’s final run came when Carter Henry scored from third on a double steal.

“Being 2-0 is big for us, especially against teams like Lumberton and LC-M,” Carter said. “Though, 2-0 clinches absolutely nothing. There are still 12 tough games to go. It is a marathon and not a sprint although starting out fast never hurts.”

PN-G returns to The Reservation Tuesday against Beaumont Central before Mid County Madness brings the Tribe to Nederland to face the Bulldogs on Friday.

LC-M be back in Mid County to face the Bulldogs on Tuesday.
