LC-M's Cox takes Lady Bear tourney

ORANGE — The future certainly looks bright for the Little Cypress-Mauriceville Lady Bears golf program.

Especially in the form of freshman Lauren Cox.

Cox fired a 86 Monday to capture top medalist honors at the LC-M Tournament held at Sunset Grove Country Club.

There was a tight race for the title in the 14-team field but it was dominated by three District 20-4A units.

Port Neches-Groves took the team crown by firing a team score of 398. Nederland was a close second at 402 with LC-M finishing third, just seven strokes back, with a 409.

Nederland’s Shelbi Vincent was second with a 88 as she beat teammate Felicia Sauceda (88) in a playoff.

PN-G’s Blaire Brevell along with Warren’s Brenna Johnson and Silsbee’s Allison Davis each had 89s.

Other team scores included Hamshire-Fannett (438), Buna (438), Orangefield (442), Bridge City (442), Beaumont West Brook (463), Silsbee (477), East Çhambers (533), Tarkington (537), Anahuac (566), Beaumont Ozen (577), and Port Arthur Memorial (601).

Behind Cox for the Lady Bears were Kailey Rountree (99), Ashley Young (114), Kacie Nichols (110), and Morgan Collier (127).

Ashton Gautreaux paced Orangefield with a 101 followed by teammates Macy Hamilton (106), Rylie Granger (113), Maggie Hebert (122) and Megan Burton (129).
