Weather forces BC-Sweeny to one-game decider

BAYTOWN — The Bridge City Cardinals and Sweeny Bulldogs were “burning the midnight hour” Friday night trying to get Game One in of their best-of-three Class 3A Region III area round playoff series after a heavy rain delayed the start at Baytown Sterling High School.

The Cardinals (24-3-2) and the Bulldogs (19-9) were pulling the tarp off the field close to 10 p.m. and were trying to get Game One in so they could continue the best-of-three series.

However, the weather prevailed and it will be a one-game series at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Baytown Sterling High School.

The Cardinals defeated Tarkington 5-0 and 17-4 in the bidistrict round while the Bulldogs bombed Houston Washington 21-0.

The BC-Sweeny winner will get either Huffman or Stafford in the regional quarterfinals next week.
