Lady Bears sweep H-F; BC, OF drop openers

ORANGE — The Little Cypress-Mauriceville Lady Bears got off to a nice start on their volleyball season by sweeping the Hamshire-Fannett Lady Longhorns at Longhorn Gym.

The Lady Bears used a superb team effort to put up a 25-20, 25-11, 25-22 victory.

Jade Piper led the Lady Bears with 10 kills. Sarah Woods chimed in with nine kills while Malayzia Winbush had five and Darby Strother three.

Jade Piper led the way with 11 assists while Josie West had nine and Tiffany Williams six.

Dayja Arnold led the squad with seven digs while Cassidy Webster had four and Piper and Strother added two apiece.

Woods paced the Lady Bears with four aces while Webster, Arnold and Piper all had two.

The Lady Bears are playing in the Pearland Tournament this weekend and will visit Silsbee Tuesday.

In other volleyball action, the Orangefield Lady Bobcats dropped a 25-15, 25-6, 25-18 decision to always powerful Tarkington on the road.

The Bridge City Lady Cardinals fell in their home tri-match, falling to Port Neches-Groves 3-0 and to Dayton 3-1. The Vidor Lady Pirates fell to Silsbee 3-1.

The Lady Bobcats, along with the West Orange-Stark Lady Mustangs, are participating in the Vidor Tournament this weekend while the Lady Cardinals have ventured to the Huffman Tournament.

On Tuesday, Bridge City visits Lumberton while Vidor welcomes in WO-S.
