Ridge Point steals one from Lady Bears in Game One

ALVIN — ALVIN — The Little Cypress-Mauriceville Lady Bears will have to take two games at perhaps their favorite playoff “home” Saturday after dropping a tough 2-0 decision to the Ridge Point Lady Panthers in Game One of their Class 4A Region III semifinals at Alvin High School Friday night.

The Lady Panthers (32-7) scratched in a pair of runs on a couple Lady Bear miscues in the bottom of the sixth.

Both pitchers tossed excellent games.

Lady Panther ace Amber Grove went the distance, allowing just two LC-M hits while striking out six and walking two.

Raven Cole once again had a strong performance for the Lady Bears (32-6), allowing only four hits while fanning nine and walking one.

In the bottom of the sixth, Cortni Emanuel drew a leadoff walk. Lee Ann Thompson reached on an error as both runners advanced to second and third. Sydni Emanuel then put down a bunt right in front of LC-M catcher Taylor Fraccastoro who tagged Cortni Emanuel for the out in a rough collision. However, Thompson eventually sneaked in to score as the Lady Bears were trying to get the ball back to the mound. Sydni Emanuel darted in to make it 2-0 when she scored off a error on a grounder hit by Kate Patel.

Cole slapped a leadoff single in the top of the seventh but Grove ended the game with a fielder’s choice and two flyouts.

Game Two of the series shifts back to Port Arthur Memorial High School today at 1 p.m. Game Three, if necessary, will follow 30 minutes after Game Two.

The LC-M-Ridge Point winner will face either Richmond Foster or Elgin in the Region III Finals next week.

Elgin and Foster are playing a three-game series at Bryan High School. Foster took a 6-2 win in Game One Friday night.

Shelby LeBouef picked up LC-M’s first hit of the night with a leadoff single down the first-base line to lead off the sixth. Grove then got Mikaela Stegall to fly out. Kayleigh Roy reached on a fielder’s choice as LeBouef was out at second and Kassie James grounded out.

The Lady Panthers received a two-out triple in the bottom of the fifth by Bria Daniels but Cole muscled her way out of the jam by fanning Kayla Lahrmann.

In the top of the third, Lady Bear Morgan Babineaux walked and swiped second with one out but was left stranded.

The Lady Panthers received a two-out hit by Cortni Emanuel in the bottom half of the third. She swiped second base but was left on when Lee Ann Thompson grounded out.

Thompson hit a single down the third-base line with one out in the bottom of the first and was bunted over by Sydni Emanuel but Cole got out of the inning by fanning Kendall Burton.

In the top of the second, Cole drew a leadoff walk and courtesy runner Angel Villanueva advanced to second off a sacrifice bunt by Fraccastoro but Grove struck out Chelsea McLain and Hope Russell.
