OF's Carmichael Wiley, WO-S defense notches honors

ORANGE — Orangefield quarterback Carmichael Wiley has been named The Orange Leader Offensive Player of the Week and the entire West Orange-Stark defense picks up the Defensive Honor of the Week after outstanding performances last week.

Wiley threw for two touchdown passes and ran for another to help the Bobcats clinch their first playoff appearance since 1993 by defeating Orange County rival Bridge City 35-14 in the Bayou Bowl.

Wiley rushed for 150 yards on just 14 carries. He ran for a 12-yard score and completed 2-of-3 passes for 36 with a 26-yard TD to his brother Carl Wiley and a 10-yard TD toss to tight end Mason Sonnier.

The Mustang defense picked up their 91st shutout in school history and dominated the Silsbee Tigers 27-0 to capture yet another District 21-3A crown.

The Tigers checked into the big game leading 21-3A with 433 yards per game. WO-S held Silsbee to a season-low 179 yards. WO-S allowed just 46 points in six 21-3A games.

Other noteworthy performances included Little Cypress-Mauriceville tailback Brandon Toliver, who darted for 234 yards and a TD on 24 carries in a 17-13 District 20-4A victory over Vidor. Orangefield’s Carl Wiley had 205 yards and scored three TDs on 22 carries against Bridge City. WO-S receiver Will Johnson hauled in three receptions for 104 yards and a TD against Silsbee.
