Lady Bears roar past Lady Pirates in three

LITTLE CYPRESS — Heading down the backstretch of District 20-4A and sitting alone in second-place in the standings, the Little Cypress-Mauriceville Lady Bears all got in on the act Tuesday night as they throttled the last-place Vidor Lady Pirates 25-13, 25-11, 25-11 at The Bear Cave.

The Lady Bears (9-1 in district) dominated every game as they quickly built double-digit leads against the Lady Pirates (0-10 in district).

Every Lady Bear got on the stat sheet in the impressive win.

Sarah Woods led the Lady Bears with 11 kills. Darby Strother put together nine kills while Darby Strother and Malayzia Winbush had seven apiece.

Maddie Frey and Kinsey Tanner put together four kills apiece. Taylor Martin had two kills while Maddie Posey, Josie West and Makenzie Hearn each had one.

Piper once again had a solid all-around match for the Lady Bears. Not only did she set the tone with her sets, she also finished with 21 service points and two aces. Dayja Arnold had another nice outing in piling up digs and also had a point.

West served up 12 points and an ace. Tanner had three points and an ace. Strother, Winbush, Cassidy Webster, Emalee Carlton and Marissa Powell all had a point with Webster and Powell picking up aces.

D’Anna Ryder paced the Lady Pirates with five kills. Samantha Miller had three kills while Halea Sherman and Bri Davis had two apiece while Bethany Bolinger and Makayla Darbonne each had one.

Davis led the Lady Pirates with four points. Miller had two points and an ace while Ryder and Sherman added two points each.

The Lady Bears will venture to seventh-place Beaumont Ozen Friday night and still trail the first-place Lumberton Lady Raiders (10-0) by just a game.

LC-M will close out the season with a tough three-match stretch at third-place Livingston (Oct. 22), at Lumberton (Oct. 25) then back home against fourth-place Port Neches Groves (Oct. 29).
