Bears, Cards nab baseball district openers

LIVINGSTON — Brandon Humphrey doubled his pleasure, powering the Little Cypress-Mauriceville Bears to a 4-1 win over the Livingston Lions in the District 20-4A opener for both teams Tuesday.

Humphrey connected on two doubles to drive in three runs and also got the win on the hill for the Bears.

The Bears snagged three runs in the bottom of the first inning.

James Swan drew a walk and Shea Richards was nailed by a pitch. Humphrey made the Lions pay by ripping a two-run double to right-centerfield. Landon Procella made it 3-0 when he stroked a RBI single to leftfield that scored courtesy runner Taylor Landry.

The Bears added their fourth run in the third frame when Swan had a one-out double to left and scored off a Humphrey double down the leftfield line.

Humphrey worked four innings on the mound, allowing two hits while striking out four. Christian Wendt pitched 2 1/3 innings and struck out five Lions. Colby Roddy got the save, working 2/3 of an inning and striking out two.
