LITTLE CYPRESS —
The Vidor Pirates managed to outlast the pesky Little Cypress-Mauriceville Battlin' Bears 63-42.
The Pirates were playing for pride with their postseason fate already sealed but the Bears were fighting to keep their playoff hopes alive. Boy, did they fight.
Quarterback Montana Quirante lead the way for the Pirates (9-1, 6-1) as he rumbled for 220 yards including four runs that resulted in touchdowns. He also produced an interception that stifled all of the remaining Bear momentum. Justin Moore racked up 140 yards and found paydirt twice while Michael Godeaux gained 62 with two scores of his own to help aid the Vidor attack.
The Pirates, District 20-4A runnerups, will look to continue their winning ways as they open up the playoff season next Friday night in Deer Park at 7 p.m. by taking on the Humble Summer Creek Bulldogs. Humble Summer Creek (10-0) defeated Dayton Friday night to capture the District 19-4A crown.
