Pirates will try to slow down winless Raiders

The Vidor Pirates got their “groove” back last week with a terrific comeback win on the road against Beaumont Ozen, now they want to put down the winless Lumberton Raiders Friday at Pirate Stadium in District 20-4A action.

The Pirates (4-1, 1-1) edged Ozen 28-21 last week, scoring the game-winning touchdown with less than 30 seconds remaining while the Raiders (0-5, 0-2) took their lumps, falling to Beaumont Central 39-8.

The Pirates own 20-4A’s top-ranked offense (378.6 yards a game) and top-ranked defense (174.6).

Quarterback Montana Quirante sparks the Pirate ground attack with 637 yards and 11 TDs on 87 carries. Fullback Justin Moore has rumbled for 469 yards and seven TDs on 59 totes and tailback Thomas Novak has 291 yards and a TD on 41 carries.

The Raiders have been outscored 192-41 this season and is only averaging 211.2 yards of total offense.

Lumberton tailback Josh Watson has ran well, racking up 407 yards on 70 carries.

Last week the Raider defense gave up 496 yards to Central, 252 on the ground and 244 in the air.
