Silsbee ends Orangefield's season with 6-2 Game 3 victory

VIDOR —

The Orangefield Bobcats were unable to pull out the series victory against the Silsbee Tigers even after winning Game 2 Friday night.

Orangefield saw its season come to a close with a 6-2 loss Saturday at Vidor High School in the regional quarterfinals of the Class 3A Region III playoffs. The Tigers, who shared the District 21-3A championship with Bridge City this season, advance to take on Carthage next week.

It would be the Tigers who pulled away by adding two runs in the fifth and following up with three in the sixth after both teams managed to stay even as they shared a 1-1 tie through four innings.

Braden Griffin went the distance on the mound for the Tigers and held the Bobcats to five hits and one earned run to go with five strikeouts.

Weston Crane threw 5 1/3 innings for the Bobcats and allowed eight hits and four runs. He struck out five Tiger batters.

The Tigers opened up the scoring in the top of the third. After Dustin Thibodaux started the inning off with a double, Tyler Powell laid down a sacrifice bunt to move the runner to third. Griffin would help his own cause by contributing a two out single to score the run.

Eric Truncale led the third inning off with a single for the Bobcats. He would soon find himself standing on third after an errant pick off attempt. Cody Angelle got his job done by bringing the runner home on a safety squeeze play to tie the game at 1-1.

In the fifth inning the Tigers managed to get the first two batters on base with a single and a walk. It looked like the Bobcats would dodge trouble picking up a strike out and a fly out but Adam Valencia came through with a two run double to put Silsbee back into the lead.
