Both the Bridge City Lady Cardinals and Orangefield Lady Bobcats will be gearing up for Class 3A Region III area round playoff action this week.
If they both win, the two Orange County and District 21-3A rivals would play in the Region III quarterfinals in the next round.
The Lady Cardinals, who sprinted to a 11-1 record to capture the District 21-3A crown, had a bye last week.
The Lady Cardinals will tangle with Sweeny, the District 24-3A runnerup, in a best-of-three series Friday and possibly Saturday at Baytown Lee High School.
Game One is Friday at 6 p.m. Game Two will follow 30 minutes after Game One. Game Three, if necessary, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday.
Sweeny rocked Houston Kashmere 21-0 in the bidistrict round last week.
The Lady Bobcats, who finished a solid 9-3 in 21-3A play to wrap up the third-place playoff berth, won their bidistrict round with plenty of dramatics.
Kylie Bradley hit a game-winning grand slam in the top of the seventh inning to help get the Orangefield Lady Bobcats past the Liberty Lady Panthers 6-5 as the Lady Bobcats advance on the Class 3A Region III area round of the playoffs.
The Lady Bobcats trailed 3-2 entering the seventh and then Granger crushed the game-winner.
The Lady Panthers scrapped for two runs in the bottom of the seventh but the Lady Bobcats were able to hang on for the win.
The Lady Bobcats will take on District 23-3A champion Houston Furr this week in the area round. They will play Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Baytown Lee High School. Orangefield will be the visitors. Tickets will be $4.
District 21-3A runnerup Silsbee defeated Splendora 3-0 in bidistrict and will now face District 24-3A champion Columbia in the area round.
In Class 4A, District 20-4A champion LC-M awaits their area round opponent after sweeping Dayton 11-3 and 10-0 in bidistrict.
The Lady Bears will face either Georgetown Eastview or Huntsville in the area round. East View and Huntsville played Game Three late Monday night. Eastview won Game One 6-4 and Huntsville took Game Two 3-2.
Nederland moves on as well after the Lady Bulldogs swept Crosby 4-1 and 5-2. The Lady Bulldogs will face Montgomery in the area round.
The Vidor Lady Pirates wrapped up a great season as they fell to state-ranked No. 1 Barbers Hill 3-0 and 9-1 while PN-G’s season ended with the Lady Indians falling to New Caney 11-1 and 1-0.
