Exciting games will fill up the diamond docket this week as District 20-4A softball will start the second half of district play while baseball teams have some critical games as they’ve reached past the halfway point of their loop schedules.
Games are on Tuesday and Thursday this week due to Good Friday and the docket is full of excellent matchups.
In District 20-4A baseball tonight the Little Cypress-Mauriceville Bears (2-2 in district) will look to slow down the red-hot Lumberton Raiders (4-0), who are the only perfect 20-4A team after four games.
The Bears, after dropping two tough decisions to both Port Neches-Groves (3-1) and Nederland (3-1), bounced back nicely on Friday when they belted Beaumont Ozen (0-4) 9-2.
LC-M got a great game from James Swan on Friday as he threw a complete game, two-hitter. He only gave up one earned run and struck out 13 batters. Swan also had two hits at the plate with two runs scored.
Brandon Humphrey had a triple and a RBI while Brennon Moore scored twice and had a hit.
The Vidor Pirates (2-2) will look to stay in the thick of the race as well when they play host to PN-G.
In District 21-3A, the Bridge City Cardinals (3-0) are a half a game up on the second-place Orangefield Bobcats (3-1). Both picked up big wins on Friday as the Cardinals flattened Hamshire-Fannett (1-3) 11-1 and the Bobcats squeezed out a 1-0 decision against West Orange-Stark (1-2).
Bridge City will play host to Hardin-Jefferson (0-3) tonight while WO-S will look for a big road win at Buna (2-2). Orangefield has its bye tonight.
Thursday’s baseball action will pit LC-M at Beaumont Central; Livingston at Vidor; Bridge City at WO-S, and Buna at Orangefield.
In 20-4A softball, the LC-M Lady Bears (21-4, 7-0) wrapped up a perfect first half Friday by edging Orange County rival Vidor (16-6, 5-2) 2-1 in nine innings.
The top four teams have separated themselves from the rest of the pack. Vidor, PN-G (5-2) and Nederland (5-2) are all tied for second with Livingston (3-4) a distant fifth.
The Lady Bears host Livingston tonight. LC-M downed the Lady Lions 1-0 in Livingston to open 20-4A play.
The Lady Pirates will try to get a leg up on second when they visit Nederland. Nederland roughed up the Lady Pirates 16-3 in their district openers.
Silsbee is sitting atop the 21-3A standings with a perfect 5-0 with Bridge City (3-1) and Orangefield (4-2) in hot pursuit.
Orangefield has its bye tonight while Bridge City welcomes Hardin-Jefferson (1-3) and WO-S (0-5) visits Buna (1-3). Orangefield downed WO-S 12-0 on Friday with Ashton Ratcliff getting the win on the hill. Maleah Saucedo had a grand slam home run for the Lady Bobcats while Kylie Bradley contributed a two-run homer.
On Thursday, LC-M will visit PN-G, Ozen is at Vidor, WO-S hosts Bridge City, and Orangefield will entertain Buna.
