Lady Cards roll past Lady Mustangs, 16-1, in three innings

Bridge City's Lady Cardinals were too much for West Orange-Stark's Lady Mustangs on Tuesday night.

The Lady Mustangs grabbed a 1-0 lead after the top of the first yet the Lady Cardinals moved to 1-0 in District 21-3A play with a 16-1 win in three innings.

Bridge City did it with hitting, pitching and being opportunistic Tuesday.

Annelise Borg and Kelsey Fults powered the Lady Cardinals offense against the Lady Mustangs.

Fults blasted a three run home run in the second inning and finished with five RBI and two runs scored to also go with a double.

Borg got her bat going in her last two at-bats with a RBI triple, a RBI double and then scored the game's final run off a wild pitch.

Kellyn Cormier notched the win on the mound after hurling three innings. She gave up one hit and one run with four strike outs and no walks.

Mar'Kia Davis scored the Lady Mustangs only run after Tia Edwards hit a RBI single to center.

Bridge City responded with four runs in the bottom of the first inning.

Kasey Fredrick and Skylar Kahla each had RBI singles while Fults hit a RBI double. Kahla later scored on a wild pitch.

The Lady Cardinals stormed out for 10 runs in the second inning on six hits.

Fults had her three-run homer while Cormier had a RBI bunt single and Baili Thibodaux had a two-run single in the second. Borg added a RBI triple in the inning as eight different Lady Cardinals scored in the second inning.

Cormier then struck out two of the three batters she faced in the third inning to set up the 15-run-rule as the Lady Cardinals came up to bat.

Thibodaux then led off with a walk before Borg slapped a RBI double to right-centerfield. Borg moved to third on a single by Hannah Faulk and then came home to end the came on a wild pitch.

Bailee Bacon scored twice for the Lady Cardinals while Kaleigh Clark added three runs.

Bridge City returns to action Friday with a trip to Orangefield for a showdown against the rival Lady Bobcats.
