WO-S takes 2-of-3 at Certa-Bearden

WEST ORANGE —  

Thanks to the twins Anderson, the West Orange-Stark Mustangs rallied for three runs in the bottom of the fifth to turn back Beaumont Kelly 5-4 at the Certa-Bearden Tournament at Ronnie Anderson Park Friday at WO-S High School.

Trailing 4-2 entering the bottom half of the fifth, the Mustangs got their offense going.

Grant Lapoint drew a leadoff walk, swiped second and went to third on a Kelly error after Payton Robertson drew a walk.

Aidan Anderson, who also got the win on the hill, made it 4-3 when he sliced a RBI single to left to score Lapoint.

Grant Anderson tied things up when he stroked na RBI double to right to plate RObertson. The Mustangs sealed it when Tavin Terrell scored courtesy runner Elijah Teel with a infield single at second.

Aidan Anderson went all five innings for the Mustangs. He scattered five hits while striking out eight and walking three.

The Mustangs scored two runs in the bottom of the first with Lapoint scoring on a passed ball while Robertson scored on a wild pitch.

The Bulldogs tallied three runs in the third as they took advantage of two WO-S errors.Caldwell Kent had a RBI single to left and Matthew Duplissey had a RBI groundout.

Kelly added another run in the top of the fourth on a Mustang error.

WO-S split a pair of games at the tournament Thursday afternoon.

The Mustangs throttled the Kirbyville Wildcats 11-1 in their second game of the day after suffering a tough 10-9 five-inning setback at the hands of Port Arthur Memorial earlier in the day.

WO-S actually outhit Memorial 7-6 in the early contest. However, the Titans took advantage of 10 walks issued by three Mustangs pitchers along with three other batters getting hit by pitches.

The Mustangs trailed 6-4 in the bottom of the fourth but scrambled back to take a 8-6 lead.
