WO-S defenders Lynch, Blanchard make All-State unit

ORANGE — West Orange-Stark seniors Joe Lynch and Travon Blanchard both landed on the 62nd annual Texas Sports Writers Association Class 3A All-State Team that was announced this week.

Both players were instrumental in leading the Mustangs to a 13-1 record, another District 21-3A Championship, and a trip to the 3A Region III Division II Finals.

The Mustangs allowed only 145.6 yards a game, posted nine shutouts and gave up just 80 points the eintire season.

Lynch, who has signed to play at Kilgore Junior College, made Second Team All-State.

He led the Mustangs with 152 tackles. He also led the way with 16 tackles for losses. He had two caused fumbles, a fumble recovery, five sacks and a interception.

Blanchard, who made Third Team All-State, posted 70 tackles. He had four tackles for losses, two and a half sacks, three caused fumbles and a fumble recovery. Blanchard digned to play for Baylor University.

Navasota's Kadarius Baker and Stephenville's Tyler Jones shared offensive player of the year honors on the All-State Football Team.

The 5-foot-9, 185-pound Baker threw for 4,411 yards and 55 touchdowns in leading Navasota to the Division II state title and was the first-team quarterback. Jones threw for 4,004 yards and 43 touchdowns but also rushed for 1,013 yards with 24 touchdowns in leading Stephenville to the Division I state title. Jones made the first team as an athlete.

El Campo lineman Cole Hunt and Navasota lineman Jordan Wells shared defensive player of the year honors.

In Class 4A, Beaumont Ozen defensive back Tony Brown made Second Team All-State.

 Denton Guyer quarterback Jerrod Heard was the offensive player of the year on the Class 4A All-State Football Team.

The 6-foot-2, 180-pound Heard threw for 2,090 yards and 17 touchdowns in leading Guyer to the Division I state title. Heard, who signed with the University of Texas, also rushed for 2,138 yards and 35 touchdowns.

Linemen Daeshon Hall of Lancaster and Tyus Bowser of Tyler John Tyler shared defensive player of the year honors.

The 6-6, 230-pound Hall had 24 tackles for losses and 16 sacks; the 6-3, 230-pound Bowser had 24 sacks and 14 quarterback pressures.
