Lady Bobcats survive Lady Falcons rally, 58-50

WINNIE, Texas — Whew.

The sigh of relief from Orangefield Lady Bobcats Coach Katie Sanders could be heard all the way back in Orangefield after her Lady Bobcats survived a scare Tuesday night in East Chambers High School Gym.

The Lady Bobcats through the first three quarters were dominating the Huffman Lady Falcons yet the fourth quarter was a lot different. In the end, the Lady Bobcats advanced with a 58-50 win in the Class 3A Region III bi-district playoff round. Houston Yates will be the Lady Bobcats next opponent. The game will be this Friday with the location and time still to be determined.

Orangefield (16-12) got a double-double from Morgan Moss who poured in 25 points and grabbed 13 rebounds. She though fouled out with just over three minutes to go in the game with Orangefield nursing a three point lead at 50-47.

Enter Megan Burton and her clutch shooting, defense and free throws down the stretch.

Burton had seven of her 14 points in the final period and five of them came with under 30 seconds left in the game.

She first hit two free throws with 30 seconds on the clock and then completed a bucket and a foul shot to give Orangefield  the eight point spread they would win by Tuesday night.

“We made it interesting in the fourth,” Sanders said. “The first half we were shooting at a high rate and they couldn’t get anything to fall. The second half seemed completely opposite. Our girls were able to fight hard and keep the lead.”
