Bears blank Raiders to give Griff his 500th win

LITTLE CYPRESS — A young Little CYpress-Mauriceville team gave long-time head coach Steve Griffith his 500th career coaching victory Thursday night as the Bears defeated the Lumberton Raiders 4-0 in District 20-4A action at Don Gibbens Field.

Cody Roddy was excellent on the hill for the Bears (5-7 in 20-4A play). He allowed the Raiders just one hit and had a no-hitter going to the sixth inning and finished with nine strikeouts.

Roddy did it with his bat too as he led off the first inning with a double and scored on a RBI single by Brennon Moore.

The Bears tacked on a pair of runs in the second frame as Dylan Gruber capped it with a two-run single to left.

Taylor Landry added a RBI single in the fifth.

The Bears will visit Central Tuesday and will close out the season at home against Vidor Apr. 25.
