BRENHAM — So much for having jet lag!

The Community Christian Lions drove all the way to Brenham Friday night and crushed Brenham Christian 67-0 in TAPPS 1A 6-Man district play.

The Lions improved to 5-1 overall but more importantly 3-0 in district play.

“The kids had that spark in their eyes and they played their best game of the season,” said Lions coach Larry Spears. “It was their (Brenham Christian) homecoming but we started strong, starting the game off with a 50-yard touchdown pass. We scored each time we had the ball the rest of the way.”

The rest of the way wasn’t very long.

There is a 45-point mercy rule in 6-Man football but you must at least get a whole half in before the game gets called. It was called at halftime with the Lions nursing a 67-0 edge.

“The kids are really coming together as a team,” said Spears. “Everyone is contributing and they’re really playing unselfish. It’s all about the team and I just love that.”

Offensive standouts for the Lions against Brenham Christian included C.J. Wagner, R.C. Morris, Dakota Alexander, Brett Foster and Joe LeBlanc.

Defensive standouts were Ethan Beard, Jordan Humble, Alex Parrish, Elias Cornell.

Spears also said that Jacob Alexander was the Player of the Game.

The Lions will have their bye this week.

They will travel to the Houston area Oct. 20 to take on Mount Carmel.

“We’ll heal up a little this week and work on improving and touching up areas of the game,” said Spears. “We’ve got a tough Mount Carmel team coming up and then a big district showdown at Alvin Living Stones the week after that.”
