Cardinals fend off Longhorns, 4-2

BRIDGE CITY — The second-ranked Bridge City Cardinals kept their perfect District 21-3A mark intact Tuesday night by nipping the Hamshire-Fannett Longhorns 4-2 in District 21-3A play at Cardinal Field.

The Cardinals (19-2-2, 9-0) struck for a pair of runs in the bottom of the third with a pair of hits.

Jonah Watts roped a single and scored off a Chase Shugart RBI single. Shugart ended up scoring on a wild pitch.

The Cardinals will look to continue their winning ways when they play host to Hardin-Jefferson Thursday night.

Bridge City tacked on two more runs in the fourth frame.

Sage Elmore drew a walk and ended up scoring off a Trevor Gunn RBI single. Hunter Uzzle capped it with a RBI single of his own.

The Longhorns (6-4 in district) picked up a pair of runs in the fourth thanks to some timely hitting.

Bryson McFarland opicked up the win on the hill for the Cardinals.

Bridge City finished with nine hits while the Longhorns had five.

The Cardinals will host Hardin-Jefferson Thursday.
