Red-hot Bobcats get Silsbee next

ORANGEFIELD — The Orangefield Bobcats slammed Houston Furr 11-1 in five innings in the Class 3A Region III area round playoffs Saturday afternoon, now they will face District 21-3A rival Silsbee in the Region III quarterfinals this week.

The Bobcats piled up six runs alone in the fourth inning, highlighted by Ryan Gunstream's three-run double.

Braxton Smith picked up the win on the hill for the Bobcats. He also had two hits, drove in a run and also scored.

Cody Angelle had two runs batted in, including drawing a bases-loaded walk in the fifth inning that produced the run-rule victory.

Silsbee, 21-3A champions, swept Columbia 3-1 and 12-5 in the area round.

The Tigers defeated Orangefield 9-8 and 15-5 in 21-3A play this season.

The Orangefield Lady Bobcats were not quite as fortunate Saturday night as they fell to the Sweeny Lady Bulldogs 6-2 in eight grueling innings. The Lady Bobcats led 2-0 early on but Sweeny scored six unanswered runs, including four in the deciding eighth frame.
