Lady Bears pound Huntsville 11-0 in Game One

BAYTOWN — The Little Cypress-Mauriceville Lady Bears brought out the lumber Friday night and the Huntsville Lady Hornets simply had no answer in Game One of their best-of-three Class 4A area round playoff series at Goose Creek Memorial High School.

The Lady Bears crushed three home runs, getting two-run home runs from Kaleigh Roy and Raven Cole and a solo blast from Taylor Fraccastoro to blow out the Lady Hornets 11-0 in five innings.

All three of the Lady Bear home runs came in the fourth inning.

Cole got the win on the hill for LC-M (30-5). She worked four innings, allowing one hit while striking out 10 and walking one. Hope Russell tossed  one inning, allowing one hit while striking out two.

Roy finished 2-for-3 with two runs batted in and two runs scored. Cole was 2-for-3 with a run and two RBI. Chelsea McLain was 2-for-3 with a double, two RBI and two runs scored. Russell went 2-for-2 with a double, a RBI and a run scored.

Mikaela Stegall went 1-for-4 with a run scored. Kassie James was 1-for-2 with a RBI and a run scored. Fraccastoro was 1-for-3 with a RBI and a run scored. Shelby LeBouef went 1-for-3 with a run scored.

Game Two of the series will be back at Goose Creek Memorial today at 1 p.m. Game Three, if necessary, will follow 30 minutes after Game Two.

The winner of the LC-M-Huntsville series will face Nederland in the regional quarterfinals next week. Nederland swept Montgomery in the area round, winning Game One Thursday 6-4 and winning Game Two Friday 12-5.

In other Region III action Friday night, Barbers and Brenham split their series and will finish up today. Barbers Hill took Game One 3-1 and Brenham won Game Two 4-0.
