West Orange-Stark blasts Buna, 40-0

BUNA — West Orange-Stark coach Cornel Thompson said way before the season started that the Mustangs’ trip to Buna could be one of their toughest challenges of the year.

Well, the Cougars battled WO-S hard for a half, but the Mustangs went on to prevail 40-0 at Cougar Stadium Friday night.

It marked the sixth shutout on the season for the Mustangs (8-0, 4-0) and the 86th one in school history.

“We came out flat and it showed early,” said Mustang coach Cornel Thompson. “Those big old corn-fed Buna boys got after us in the first half and we knew it was going to be physical. A lot of our kids didn’t even know that Buna was called the Cougars and they found out tonight that the Cougars come to play. Defensively, the kids were superb. Anytime you hold a team to barely 100 yards, you’ll take that every day.”
