Lady Bears edge BC, 35-34

LITTLE CYPRESS — The Little Cypress-Mauriceville Lady Bears edged the Bridge City Lady Cardinals in their season opener 35-34 last Saturday.

Both team struggled from the field due to good defense pressure, managing 11 field goals each.

The game was won at the free-throw line where the Lady Bears made 13 out of 20 compared to the Lady Cardinals 12 out of 23.

The Lady Bears were led by senior Cassidy Webster with 15 points, the last 2 points came at the free throw line with two seconds left. Bridge City took the lead 34-33 with eight seconds to go.

The Lady Bears inbounded the ball to Webster and Cassidy drove the length of the court. As she entered the lane Bridge City was called for a blocking foul and Webster hit both ends of the one and one to finish 7-of- 8 for the afternoon from the line. The Lady Bears also had scoring from junior Josie Nimitz, and sophomores Grace Chen and Sheridan Rogers each with four points. Bridge City was led by Kelsey Fults with 15 points and Carley Choate chipped 10 points.
