LUMBERTON —  The Little Cypress –Mauriceville Battlin Bears remain in the drivers seat for a playoff spot as they continued their winning ways Friday night as they defeated the Lumberton Raiders 38-12 in District 20-4A play at Raider Stadium.

The Bears started the game off hot racing out to a 14-0 but they would let the Raiders hang around and keep it close as the Bears led 17-12 mid way through the third quarter.

However, the Bears’ Brandon Toliver stole the show, amassing an amazing 368 yards on 31 carries including five touchdown runs. The Bears scored on all but two possessions thanks to an offensive line that created big running lanes all night.

Toliver scored on runs of 15, 15, 6, 9 and capped off the night with a 37-yard TD gallop.

Brandon has been hot and we have been feeding him the ball,” said LC-M coach Randy Crouch. “The offensive line has a lot to do with that”.

LC-M (4-3, 4-1) is seeking its first playoff appearance since 1997 while the Raiders (0-8, 0-5) drooped their 19th consecutive game.

The Bears racked up 427 yards of total offense, 385 of it via the ground game. LC-M controlled the clock as well, racking up 21 first downs.

The Bear defense stood tall limiting the Raiders to only 166 total yards offense. Trey Chandler and Brady Lyons both contributed an interception each to the effort.

It was a quiet night for the Raiders’ offense who was led offensively by Drew Manley who threw for 130 yards on 14 completions. Chase Griffin added a 34-yard touchdown reception for the first score of the night and Manley capped off their scoring with a six-yard touchdown run midway through the third quarter.

Lane Millican led Lumberton with five catches for 36 yards.

The Bears turned back the Raider ground game all night, limiting Lumberton to just 36 yards on 20 carries.

Bear quarterback Caleb Harley completed 5-of-10 passes for 42 yards. Colby Roddy led LC-M receivers with four catches for 27 yards. LC-M also received a 30-yard field goal from standout kicker Trent Manuel in the third quarter.

Next week the Bears hope to continue winning as they play host to a good Central Jaguar team.

We are going to take each game one at a time,” said Crouch. “That was mile marker five. We have mile marker six next week against a tremendous Central team, it is going to take a monumental effort but I am excited to see how our boys respond.”
