OF's Wiley, WO-S's Thompson net Players of the Week

ORANGE — Orangefield senior running back Carl Wiley is The Orange Leader’s Offensive Player of the Week while West Orange-Stark junior defensive back Deionte Thompson is the Defensive Player of the Week after both had outstanding performances last week.

Wiley helped the Bobcats inch closer to their first playoff berth since 2003 when he waltzed through the Buna defense for 298 yards and two touchdowns on 26 carries to help lead the Bobcats to the critical 35-20 road victory.

Wiley leads District 21-3A in rushing, upping his total to 1,352 yards and six TDs on 199 carries.

Thompson had two interceptions for the Mustangs in their 40-16 victory over Bridge City. He also had four tackles and a deflected pass as WO-S held the Cardinals to 138 total yards.

Other noteworthy performances includes WO-S quarterback Dillon Sterling-Cole, who passed for 172 yards and a TD and rushed for 64 yards and a TD.

LC-M running back Brandon Toliver, who surpassed the 1,000-yard mark for the season after he rushed for 165 yards and a pair of scores in the Bears’ 42-14 loss to Beaumont Central.

Orangefield quarterback Carmichael Wiley supported his brother well with 103 rushing yards and a pair of scores.

Team defense honors go out to WO-S, which held Bridge City to 138 yards and to Vidor, which held Livingston to 144 yards in a 34-14 Pirate victory.
