Bears' Toliver, WO-S' Tims net Players of the Week

ORANGE — Little Cypress-Mauriceville running back Brandon Toliver is The Orange Leader’s Offensive Player of the Week while West Orange-Stark linebacker Steven Tims is the Defensive Player of the Week after both had impressive performances in big district victories last week.

Toliver, along with a stellar performance from the Battlin’ Bear offensive line last week, shredded the Beaumont Ozen defense.

Toliver rushed for 219 yards on 26 carries and scored all three LC-M touchdowns as the Bears spanked the Panthers 24-7 in District 20-4A play.

Toliver, also an outstanding defensive back, has close to 400 yards in his last three games at tailback.

Tims, just a sophomore, rose up last week as the Mustangs held down an explosive Orangefield running game as the Mustangs defeated the Bobcats 38-14.

Orangefield ran 53 plays and Tims made tackles on 18 of them as the Mustangs stayed perfect in District 21-3A play.

There were plenty of other noteworthy performances.

The LC-M defense held Ozen to 69 yards rushing on 25 carries.

WO-S quarterback Dillon Sterling-Cole was 14-of-20 for 244 yards and two TDs passing and one rushing. Mustang receiver Deionte Thompson caught four passes for 93 yards and a score. WO-S’ Chase Rutledge caught a TD pass, ran for another and threw for another.

Vidor running backs Jeremy Stephenson and Sage Smith combined to rush for  323 yards on 48 carries in a 36-34 loss to Central.

The Bridge City defense limited Hamshire-Fannett to 237 total yards as the Cardinals netted a 20-17 21-3A victory.
